Ask and You Shall Receive!

Highlighted Adjuster Review Lines

Recently we were asked if it was possible to make the Adjuster Review lines stand out a little better on our Contents Valuation Report (CVR – the format in which the evaluations are returned to you). As it was, the lines were fairly easy to scroll past and miss. To address this issue we have made an update to the CVR. Now any lines marked “Adjuster Review” as the Replacement Price Source (column H) will be automatically highlighted bright yellow.

This is a great improvement but invariably we have to tell you how to return the colors to normal!

What triggers the yellow highlighting is the phrase “Adjuster Review” in column H. The simple fix is to put the cursor in column H of the highlighted row and hit delete, or type in anything else you prefer such as “Reviewed”.  Once the phrase “Adjuster Review” is removed, the color scheme returns to normal.

Since we don’t process the spreadsheet in the same manner you do, it’s very helpful to receive feedback on how the spreadsheet can be a better tool. If you have any ideas or suggestions for improvements to anything we do for you, let us know!

As always, if you have any questions or need further explanation we are more than happy to help!

These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things...

At ReSource we spend our days talking about peoples most valued items and what happened to them to result in an insurance claim. Although we enjoy hearing about the items other people cherish, what is it that ReSource employees enjoy? We asked the staff to bring pictures of a ReSource replaceable item they own which would be missed if it was lost, stolen or damaged.

Below is a collection of some of the responses we received. All of these items hold a special place in their homes from bike rides with kids and family movie nights, to meaningful jewelry and favorite hobbies.

We know that there was a reason and purpose for each item on an inventory list. It could be that the item holds a sentimental value or is just an invaluable part of daily life. We empathize with each insured and listen with an open heart to ensure we know what made it special.

We encourage you to take a moment to consider those personal treasures in your house that would impact you the most if suddenly without them. Some of the criteria we considered when choosing our items were: what items are most used, most loved, most valuable, most comforting…The answers may surprise you!

This exercise serves as a reminder that you never know what someone else considers to be important in their life, everyone values items differently! Taking a little extra time to listen can make all the difference in the world

Brain Teasers...Test Your Mental Sharpness

Answer the following questions without peeking at the answers!

1. Johnny’s mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third child’s name?
2. A clerk at a butcher shop stands five feet ten inches tall and wears size 13 sneakers. What does he weigh?
3. Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain in the world?
4. How much dirt is there in a hole that measures two feet by three feet by four feet?
5. What word in the English language is always spelled incorrectly?
6. Billie was born on December 28th, yet her birthday always falls in the summer. How is this possible?
7. In British Columbia you cannot take a picture of a man with a wooden leg. Why not?
8. If you were running a race and you passed the person in 2nd place, what place would you be in now?
9. Which is correct to say, “The yolk of the egg is white” or “The yolk of the egg are white?”
10. A farmer has five haystacks in one field and four haystacks in another. How many haystacks would he have if he combined them all in one field?

Can't figure it out?

Our brains are programmed to form patterns and make connections.  It is natural to jump to conclusions based on what we want and/or expect to see. Although this trait serves us well in a society that overloads us with information on a daily basis, the brain doesn't always get it right!
For example, the simple answer to question number one is not June but your brain sees a pattern and continues it.
This exercise can serve as a reminder that sometimes the easy answer isn't necessarily the correct one. Remember that although a certain way of thinking has worked in the past, there is always another way to look at a situation and others may not come to the same conclusions you do!

3. Mt. Everest. It just wasn’t discovered yet.
4. There is no dirt in a hole.
5. Incorrectly (except when it is spelled incorrecktly).
6. Billie lives in the southern hemisphere.
7. You can’t take a picture with a wooden leg. You need a camera (or iPad or cell phone) to take a picture.
8. You would be in 2nd place. You passed the person in second place, not first.
9. Neither. Egg yolks are yellow.
10. One. If he combines all his haystacks, they all become one big stack.

Replacing Air… Jordan’s that is

Article by: Brandon F.

Michael Jordan is the man who single handedly changed the face of basketball. He is a passionate, strong, smart and determined competitor that took the floor for 14 years and made the game of basketball into a global phenomenon. We have our superstars in today’s NBA, but none will compare to the greatest. Over his career, His Airness racked up quite a resume.  Jordan’s iconic #23 jersey has actually been retired by a team that Jordan never played for. He is the greatest and most respected player of all time (even after LEBRON)!

14× NBA All-Star (19851993, 19961998, 20022003)
10× NBA scoring champion (19871993, 19961998)
10× All-NBA First Team (19871993, 19961998)
NBA All-Defensive First Team (19881993, 19961998)
NBA Rookie of the Year (1985)

Jordan's replaced on a recent ReSource claim
Air Jordan’s were released in 1984 by Nike. At the time the NBA was a white shoe only league and Michael was actually fined $5000 every game of his rookie season for wearing them. It didn’t matter. Michael was going to keep wearing the shoes, and Nike was going to keep paying him to wear them. A $5000 fine for a pair of shoes that originally cost $65 doesn’t seem like a reasonable trade off, but boy were they right in their gamble! Air Jordan took over the game and changed the way that we look at basketball players. The longer shorts, black socks, and black shoes were replacing the NBA of the past. Each championship that Jordan and the Bulls won seemed to take Jordan to a whole new level. Each season of his career Nike released a new pair of Air Jordan’s and today the retro versions of those same models are sought after by “sneakerheads” everywhere. It seemed from 1991-1998 that there was nothing bigger than the Air Jordan brand.

Today, you still see people wearing the Air Jordan’s that His Airness played with in the 80’s and 90’s. Jordan brand is now a separate entity of Nike, and Michael has strategically re-released his shoes over the years in a successful effort to keep the brand alive and desirable. These shoes normally retail for $160-180 in the store. For those who can’t wait to get your hands on a pair, IT WILL COST YOU! The re-sale or consignment business has been a booming venture when it comes to the flashy footwear. A pair regularly in stores for $180 might re-sale for anywhere up to $600 at a consignment store. That’s a lot of money for all of you sneaker lovers out there!

Here at ReSource we can help all of you sneakerheads get your kicks delivered directly to your door and back into your collection. We work with the best in the business when it comes to Jordan/Nike/Rare Footwear replacement. Let us know what you need so we can prepare you for take off in your new Air Jordan’s!

My Buttons Don't Work!

How to – Enabling macros in Excel 2003

We come across the question now and again about the error message regarding disabled macros in excel. This error message can be incredibly frustrating as it disables the use of all buttons on the spreadsheet, like “Hide unused lines” – which is my personal favorite!

A macro is a set of instructions that is represented in an abbreviated format. For example, to “Hide unused lines” without the grey macro button, you would select all lines you no longer wanted shown and then right click and select “hide”.  Having a macro button takes out the middle steps and allows for an easier and more efficient workflow, which of course is what ReSource is all about!

So, here are some error messages you may have seen (this how-to uses Excel 2003 but we are familiar with other versions as well):

And here is a step by step solution for you!

  1. Click Ok to the initial warning – we have to change the settings
  2. On the top toolbar select Tools > Macro > Security

  1. A pop up box will appear that gives you varying levels of security along with descriptions of each. We recommend that you set this to Medium which will give you the option to enable or disable macros right when you open the spreadsheet.

Close out of the spreadsheet and reopen it (this has to be done in order for the settings to take effect). The first thing you will see is a security warning which asks if you would like to Enable or Disable macros. Chose to Enable.

You are now all set and the buttons on the evaluation should work! Of course most of us have probably grown into more of a love/hate relationship with our computers because there are always more problems and questions that come up. If you have any questions about macros or any other issues with the finished evaluation, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Golf - Getting in the Swing of Things

The reason the pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can't see him laughing.
            ~ Phyllis Diller

Over the last 10 years the game of golf has evolved from a favorite pastime to a highly competitive and recognized sport. In the past fans may have watched rounds of golf on Sunday afternoons or seen amazing shots on ESPN’s top 10, but golf tournaments are now shown on prime time TV!

For avid golfers, one of the focal points of these tournaments is the new equipment being used by the pros. Golf equipment, like technology, is constantly changing and improving. With all of the advancements in materials and technology, a golf store can seem more like a science lab than anything else! With a few simple measurements you can have the perfect arsenal in your bag. Graphite shafts, hybrid irons, Scotty Cameron putters, drivers that weigh just over 10 ounces, this is not the same old golf equipment from the days when Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus walked the fairways!

This new and improved equipment can work wonders to improve your game, but what kind of equipment is right for you? There are 3 approaches to consider as a starting point when you are “choosing your weapon.” These range from standard to advanced, from basic to custom and from cheap to expensive; the task lies in finding the perfect balance for you!

Box Sets
Box sets are the most inexpensive pre-manufactured set of clubs you can purchase. They consist of the most commonly used clubs that are found in most complete golf sets. Since there isn’t as much concern for having the most up to date technology, cost on these sets is priced very reasonably, making it a great starting point for beginners or casual golfers. With box sets you literally get a box with just about everything you need to start playing golf, all of your basic clubs (generally all the same brand) and usually a bag as well.

Custom Selections
A custom/hand-built set is unique in the fact that all components of the clubs are selected by the golfer and then assembled in the shop. You choose the preferred heads, shafts and grips for your clubs, leaving you with a set consisting of only the components of your liking. There does not have to be any consistency to the clubs or manufacturers used since the golfer selects everything by hand. Although more expensive than a standard box set, custom selections save on cost by allowing the freedom to choose which components to save or splurge on and also by having a shop assemble the clubs as opposed to the manufacturer. These clubs give you the potential to step up your game but not at the expense of the premier brands. Of course, we use the word “potential” very loosely J

Premier brands/clubs
Premier brands come directly from top manufacturers who utilize the most advanced technology available to create the most cutting edge, high end clubs on the market. With these clubs you will find industry leading materials such as graphite, titanium, and tungsten. They will be faster, lighter, and more expensive than any other clubs on the market but they also provide the most game enhancing potential. Technology from premier brands, such as Taylormade, Ping or Callaway, will eventually trickle down and make its way into most of the other brands. Premier brands will come fully assembled but can be customized by the golf store or manufacturer to fit your needs.

Whether you are in the trees or in the middle of the fairway, we know there is never a dull moment in your golf game. With the correct equipment you can stop leaving clubs unused in your bag, and start hitting the shots you see on prime time. If your game is gone, we can help get it back by finding the right clubs for you. Our product experts know what it takes to get the correct clubs selected to put you back on the course!
