Michael Jordan is the man who single handedly changed the face of basketball. He is a passionate, strong, smart and determined competitor that took the floor for 14 years and made the game of basketball into a global phenomenon. We have our superstars in today’s NBA, but none will compare to the greatest. Over his career, His Airness racked up quite a resume.  Jordan’s iconic #23 jersey has actually been retired by a team that Jordan never played for. He is the greatest and most respected player of all time (even after LEBRON)!

Air Jordan’s were released in 1984 by Nike. At the time the NBA was a white shoe only league and Michael was actually fined $5000 every game of his rookie season for wearing them. It didn’t matter. Michael was going to keep wearing the shoes, and Nike was going to keep paying him to wear them. A $5000 fine for a pair of shoes that originally cost $65 doesn’t seem like a reasonable trade off, but boy were they right in their gamble! Air Jordan took over the game and changed the way that we look at basketball players. The longer shorts, black socks, and black shoes were replacing the NBA of the past. Each championship that Jordan and the Bulls won seemed to take Jordan to a whole new level. Each season of his career Nike released a new pair of Air Jordan’s and today the retro versions of those same models are sought after by “sneakerheads” everywhere. It seemed from 1991-1998 that there was nothing bigger than the Air Jordan brand.

Today, you still see people wearing the Air Jordan’s that His Airness played with in the 80’s and 90’s. Jordan brand is now a separate entity of Nike, and Michael has strategically re-released his shoes over the years in a successful effort to keep the brand alive and desirable. These shoes normally retail for $160-180 in the store. For those who can’t wait to get your hands on a pair, IT WILL COST YOU! The re-sale or consignment business has been a booming venture when it comes to the flashy footwear. A pair regularly in stores for $180 might re-sale for anywhere up to $600 at a consignment store.
